WHAT IS A SHAC?

A SHAC(School Health Advisory Council) is a school board appointed advisory group of individuals who represent different segments of the community. By law, a majority of the members must be persons who are parents of students enrolled in the district and who are not employed by the district. The KISD SHAC is made up of parents, community members, and school staff working together to improve the health of all students and families through Coordinated School Health Programs .

WHAT DOES THE SHAC DO?

The KISD SHAC meets regularly to develop plans that address the eight components of a coordinated school health program.
1) Health Instruction
2) Healthy School Environment
3) Health Services
4) Physical Education
5) School Counseling
6) Nutrition & Food Service
7) School Site Health Promotion for Faculty and Staff
8) Involvement with Parents and the Community
